THE PROJECT
The existing Jamesville Correctional Facility consists of four housing pods plus a direct supervision dormitory. Three of the existing housing pods were renovated to become 56-cell direct supervision units. Three new direct supervision units were constructed totaling 180 beds. Two are 60-bed dormitories, and one consists of 30 double wet cells. The new building was tied into the existing control and security systems, and carefully fit into the existing secure perimeter, despite challenging site topography. The project was carefully detailed to emphasize function, simplicity, and ease of use. As a result, final bids were almost 10% less than the construction manager’s estimate. This allowed additional renovation items to be added to the project
