Avon Opera Block

Syracuse, NY

THE PROJECT

Originally constructed in 1876 as Hall’s Opera House, this three-story, mid-block structure now serves as the Town of Avon offices. Designed in conjunction with N.K. Bhandari, the overall project included substantial renovations throughout the building. The third-floor opera house auditorium, abandoned for decades, included the repair of damaged floors, walls and ceilings; replication of original wall stenciling; protection of historic stage graffiti; the addition of a lift to provide handicapped access to the stage; and a new rear stair tower to provide code-required egress.
