HOW DOES HOLMES▪KING▪KALLQUIST EXECUTE OUR CLIENTS’ DESIGN GOALS SUCCESSFULLY?

“We have developed an extensive interview process that is used to draw out the client’s design goals in both imagery and function, but perhaps even more importantly, the ultimate feel of the final design. Combining this with sensitive siting, guides us to a successful project.”

He has built a national reputation for residential design in both traditional and contemporary styles. His traditional material palette emphasizes timber, logs, stone, and shingles; he is equally at home with concrete, metal, and glass.

HOW DO YOU USE DRAWING TO HELP A CLIENT VISUALIZE THEIR IDEAS?

“Drawing with my client is quick and exciting. It allows us to express the essential character of a design, whether it is the shape and relationship of the rooms, or the rhythm of a façade. Despite the digital tools we have available, the sketch remains the quickest way to present visual ideas, stimulate discussion, and record the essence of a design concept.”

WHAT SETS HOLMES▪KING▪KALLQUIST APART FROM OTHER ARCHITECTURE FIRMS IN CENTRAL NEW YORK?

“One of the most satisfying aspects of working at Holmes▪King▪Kallquist is the stability of our staff. Over the 30+ years of the firm’s history, we have had a slow, steady trajectory in our number of employees. Unlike most other firms, we have never had large swings in our number of staff, largely the result of a very broad base of project types. Many of us have worked together for fifteen years or more. We are familiar with one another’s strengths and areas of expertise, and subsequently know how to work together as members of a cohesive team. New staff members reinforce our technical and creative edge, balanced with senior staff who have developed superior technical and client management skills in their careers.”
